Byron Bay & Surfer’s Paradise

February 7, 2017

Oh Byron Bay, how I love you so. Such a quaint hippie town reminiscent of Santa Cruz x 10. We loved it so much we ended up extending our stay a few more days. Here’s a pic of me chillin’ in a hammock at our hostel. This hostel was cool since we were right on the beach.

^^ Here is a really bad photo of us kayak surfing. Right before this we saw about a dozen dolphins. They were so close I could hear them breathe! It was surreal. Side note: kayaking really tests your friendships hahah.

^^ One morning we woke up at 5am to “jog” to the lighthouse to watch the sunrise. There’s something so ethereal about being up before the sun. I nearly died pushing myself up some stairs to make it before the sunrise, but it was totally worth it. This is the most easterly part of Australia.

^^ One thing I loved about Byron, or Australia in general, is all of the vegan and gluten free options. Carolyn is vegan so I was eating vegan while she was here.

Surfer’s Paradise was a bit of a let down. Definitely not somewhere you want to stay for more than 2-3 days. It was a beautiful beach, but adjacent to a strip of buildings. Kind of strange when the buildings cast a tall shadow over the beach. We did go to the Wildlife Currumbin Sanctuary where I got my fill of kangaroos and koalas.

^^ Hug a koala ✔️ Don’t be fooled by the koala’s expression, we were just hugging and in love 2 seconds before this.

^^ Of course when there are succulents I must take a photo.

Next stop, Brisbane!
